France's Compagnie Generale de Geophysique (CGG) (GEPH.PA: Quote, Profile , Research) said on Monday that one of the merger conditions for its planned $3.1 billion takeover of Texas-based Veritas DGC Inc. (VTS.N: Quote, Profile , Research) had been completed.

The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) has concluded its review relating to the deal, the companies said, which satisfies one of the merger conditions. The deal was announced on Sept. 5.

Completion of the deal, which will create the world's biggest listed provider of seismic surveys, remains subject to shareholder approval.

Geologists use seismic surveys to make detailed maps of potentially oil-bearing deposits by bouncing acoustic waves into rock layers and measuring their reflection.
