Over the last 100 years, the Dow Industrials has been up 67 years (2/3 of the time) and has ended down 33 years (1/3 of the time).
In this same 100 years, the Dow average has rarely been down more than 2 years in a row with the 1929-1933, 1939-1941 and 2000-2002 periods being the lone exceptions. The current 5 year winning streak is the longest since the 1991-1999 period and has included some 9600 points as of Wednesday's close. The rally from the 1982 lows to the 1999 highs encompassed some 10,700 points.
